What is an STB Module?
The acronym STB stands for “Set Top Box.” The body and lid of the STB terminal box (drop wire module terminal box) house a stub block. It is possible to separate the module from the housing to ease use in the cramped settings. The body of the box has a wall-mounting option. The box is meant to be hung on the wall.

An AC to DC adapter can be used to supply power to the STB’s power port, which is 5.5 volts DC. The STB’s ON/OFF switch receives this power, subsequently fed into the circuit.
The use of a Zener diode helps prevent short circuits in the STB. This Zener diode will burn out to prevent the STB from going onto the following circuit if we accidentally plug in a 12 Volt DC adaptor.
2.5 Volt IC
The function of a 2.5 Volt IC is to supply a constant 2.5 volts to the circuit.
3.3 Volt IC
This IC ensures that the circuit receives a steady 3.3 volts for proper operation.
1.8 Volt IC
As is customary, it is in charge of supplying 1.8 volts to the circuit it uses to transmit data.
READ-ONLY MEMORY is referred to as RAM. The STB’s RAM is utilized to store the necessary data. It is also referred to as the Flash plug-in.
CPU is an abbreviation for “Central Processing Unit.” The STB’s CPU performs a variety of duties, including booting. There is a visual as well as an auditory output. The audio signal is first routed through an audio IC before being routed to the STB’s A/V section. Video is sent to the STB’s A/V section via HDMI.
O/P Front Panel Port
This connector is used to power the STB’s front panel. This port is attached to a separate PCB on the front panel. The STB’s remote functions are controlled by a remote sensor attached to this location. The PCB plate controls the STB’s touch buttons on the front panel.

A low signal level in the STB makes it difficult to fine-tune the services, but a high signal level can damage the tuner IC. RF Port Section

The STB’s firmware can be upgraded via the device’s RS232 port. When the STB’s USB to RS232 cable is plugged into a laptop, it can be used to update the STB software. We use a Test release to upgrade a specific STB whenever a new network is set up.
When testing an STB, a test release is utilized in place of the final release. OTA is performed from the headend to upgrade all STBs in the field after the testing is complete. As a result, upgrading a specific STB for testing purposes is a snap using this port.
The digital headend signal is decoded by an STB, allowing users to access television, video on demand (VOD), radio, and the internet, among other things. Because of this two-way communication, STBs can give interactive features like the ability to add premium channels.

Open Fieldbus Choices

Advantages STB Modules
Analog, digital, and special I/O modules, open Fieldbus NIMs, power distribution modules (PDMs), island bus extension modules, and special modules make up the core set of Advantys STB modules.
Advantages STB form factors dictate the design of these core modules, which are therefore only compatible with Advantys STB base units. Additionally, they can be automatically addressed because of the island’s communications and power distribution capabilities.
Advantages STB island bus protocol-compliant devices from other Schneider catalogs or third-party developers have preferred modules. A contract with Schneider enables the development and qualification of Preferred Modules, which are entirely compliant with Advantys STB specifications and auto-addressable.
Advantages STB I/O module and a preferred module are both handled by the island bus. However, there are four critical differences:

Standard CANopen Devices
The Advantages STB island supports typical CANopen devices available on the market. As a result, these devices must be manually addressed through physical switches integrated into the devices themselves. Advantages setup software is used to set them up. You can’t utilize a regular CANopen device with a simple NIM.
If you’re going to use ordinary CANopen devices, place them at the far end of the island. Both the final Advantys STB section and the final standard CANopen device should have a 120 termination.
